"I don't feel like myself anymore."
It's one of the things I hear most often on consultation calls.
Some women have read everything they can find about perimenopause and menopause.
They know the symptoms.
What they don't have is a plan for what to actually do about it.
That's where a menopause coach comes in.
What a menopause coach does
A menopause coach guides you through the practical side of this stage of life, one week at a time.
In my coaching, that covers:
- Strength training, built around where you're starting from.
- Nutrition that works for your body, with no extreme diets.
- Sleep, stress and recovery, because they affect everything else.
- Mindset, including all-or-nothing thinking, self-sabotage and perfectionism.
- Accountability, so you keep going on the busy weeks too.
The plan changes as you change.
If your sleep has been poor this week, we adjust.
If work is crazy, we find a version of the week that still works.
What a menopause coach doesn't do
A coach doesn't replace your GP.
Medical questions, including anything to do with HRT, belong with your doctor.
A good coach works alongside that, helping with the daily habits that make a real difference to how you feel.
What to look for
If you're comparing options, here's what I'd look for:
- Real strength training. A meal plan and a step target on their own won't help you build strength.
- Real contact with a coach. Live sessions and genuine support, rather than a five-minute video once a week.
- Education. You should come away understanding why things work for your body, so the change lasts.
- No shame. No public weigh-ins, no before-and-after photos, and no guilt when life gets in the way.
- Something that fits your life. If it only works in a perfect week, it won't last.
Does online coaching actually work?
Around 80-90% of the women I work with don't like going to the gym.
They prefer training from home, in their own time.
That's a big part of why online coaching works so well for them.
I've coached fully online since 2022, with clients across Ireland, the US and Europe.
Depending on the programme, that includes:
- Live online classes for full body strength, core strength, and stretching and meditation
- A full library of recorded workouts for the days you can't make it live
- 1:1 video calls and WhatsApp support
- A community of women going through the same thing
- Community days twice a year, for a walk or a hike together in person
No commute. No gym membership. Just 30 minutes that fits around your working day.
If you're looking for an online personal trainer in Ireland
Look for someone who specialises in women over 40, understands perimenopause and menopause, and puts strength training at the centre.
That's exactly what I've built my coaching around since 2017, with over 500 clients coached.
